As the rail market continues to grow so too does the potential for new technology-enabled applications.” This was the central theme of Michele Fracchiolla prestentation, Ansaldo STS Freight BU President, during his speech on the Strategic Drivers of Innovation at ASTS and Hitachi which he delivered at the Hitachi Social Innovation Forum held in Brisbane recently.

More than 200 people attended the event, held to improve understanding of Hitachi’s Social Innovation activities in Australia. Also speaking at the event was Global Freight Solutions Manager and Manager Heavy Freight Automated Dispatching Systems – Australia, Dr Anthony MacDonald who delivered a presentation on The Future of Rail, along with a case study on the company’s delivery of the satellite-based signalling solution for the Roy Hill Project entitled R&D meets Reality. Also featured at the Forum was an Innovation Showcase which included demonstrations of ASTS’ innovations in rail automation such as satellite-based signalling, along with a simulation of our ETCS/ERTMS Level 2 system.
