Ansaldo STS (STS.MI), a Finmeccanica Company, through its subsidiary Ansaldo STS España, was awarded with a contract for the Maintenance of Railway Traffic Control; signaling and associated systems, for the High Speed Line (HSL) Madrid-Puigverd de Lleida.

This 495 Km length project links the cities of Madrid and Barcelona with the French border. The 2 year contract is worth EUR 26.9 Million, with an option to extend the contract for a further 6 months. The main characteristics of the line are: length 495 km, speed 350km/h, double track, 13 interlockings, 5 RBC, 4 commercial stations, 2x25 kv ac traction system.
Within the total contract, Ansaldo STS España is fully responsible for the maintenance of signaling systems (ERTMS L1 & L2) running on this line section, as well as all associated systems, including power supply system and safety detectors systems.

In Spain, Ansaldo STS has been awarded in 2000 the first European project for the implementation of the first and second level of ERTMS for the same High Speed Line Madrid-Lleida and in 2005 a major maintenance contract of 4 years.
