Ansaldo STS wins design contract for a Railway Traffic Management project in the UK

- First design stage awarded to Ansaldo STS

Ansaldo STS S.p.A, through its subsidiary Ansaldo Signal UK Ltd. has been awarded a contract by Network Rail, owner and operator of Britain’s rail infrastructure, to design the first stage of the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS), which will be deployed on about 215 km of track on the Cambrian rail line.
Network Rail has announced a total investment in the project, including all involved parties scope of supply, of more than Euro 87 million, which will be spread over three stages. The first stage, awarded to Ansaldo STS and relating to the system design, is valued at more than Euro 4 million.
This contract is for the design of the first full deployment of an ERTMS signalling and train control system on Network Rail infrastructure and its implementation is the first step in evaluating the business and operational implications of a wider UK introduction of ERTMS.
