Ansaldo STS (STS.MI), a Finmeccanica company, has signed, through its subsidiary Ansaldo STS USA, a contract valued at 13.2 million USD as part of a strategic alliance agreement with Insigma (HK) United Rail Transportation Engineering Co., Ltd. (Insigma).

The contract is for the design and supply of a Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system for Hangzhou Metro Line 2 Phase 1, in Hangzhou, China. The contract represents Ansaldo STS’s eighth CBTC project in China and its second metro signaling project in the city of Hangzhou.

Hangzhou Metro Line 2 Phase 1 will have a total length of 20.9 miles (33.69 km) with 26 underground stations. The line will open in two stages.

The Southeast section will extend 11.6 miles (18.66 km) with 13 stations and is planned to open in December, 2013. The Northwestern section will add an additional 9.3 miles (15.03 km) and 13 stations and is scheduled to open in December, 2016.
