Easing market growth as a result of the current economic slowdown has reduced the urgency for Rio Tinto to complete the planned automation of much of its 1,300km iron ore railway network in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Ansaldo STS and Rio Tinto have made substantial progress on the 2012 implementation of the ATO project, which has successfully completed its trials.
